B.SC. PERFUSION TECHNOLOGY
B.Sc. Perfusion Technology is an Undergraduate Program offered by the KMCT College of Allied Health Sciences, Calicut.

Programme Summary

Cardio Vascular Perfusion is the science of providing extracorporeal circulation for artificially supporting and for the time being substituting a patient’s respiratory and circulatory systems.

 The main goal of Cardiac Perfusion Technology dept. is to equip the cardiovascular perfusion students for professional practice. The curriculum also gives prominence for creating a vast knowledge base in cardiothoracic anatomy, physiology and pathophysiology, along with pharmacology, fetal and neonatal cardiac development and perfusion science.

A perfusionist is a skilful allied health professional, proficient and educated and mainly as a member of an open – Heart surgical team, accountable for the selection, set up and operation of a Heart – Lung Machine and other life support system like IABP, LVAD, RVAD & ECMO.

FACILITIES

The college has five well equipped laboratories – Anatomy, Pathology, Biochemistry, Microbiology, Biomedical and Physiology Lab.

  • Anatomy lab

Anatomy lab comprises of human skeletons, set of bones, visceral organ specimens, cadavers, histology slides, model chart and posters.

  • Physiology lab

Well-equipped lab of KMCT CAHS Consists of haemocytometer, Neubar chamber, sphygmomanometer, stethoscope, and automated cell counter

  • Biochemistry lab

Biochemistry lab of KMCT CAHS is a highly sophisticated lab containing U. V. spectrometer, Flame Photometer, pH meter, chromatographic apparatus with sprayer, and Electrophoretic apparatus

  • Microbiology lab

State of the art lab contains Hot –air oven, Autoclave, Incubator, Safety cabin, and Microscopes.

  • Pathology lab

Pathology lab of KMCT CAHS is a well maintained lab equipped with Microtome, Histokinet, and centrifuge.

After completing the degree, students can either go for a job or can choose higher studies. There are numerous opportunities for Perfusionists at hospitals and surgical centres across the world.
