B.Sc Optometry is an Undergraduate Program offered by the KMCT College of Allied Health Sciences, Calicut.
Programme Summary
Optometry is a health care profession which is concerned with the health of the eye and related structures. The Optometry degree course includes study of the examination, diagnosis and treatment of eye, specially related to visual, optical system, refractive error and their correction, using lenses and other optical aids.
Moreover it covers the study of vision screening, diagnosis of visual problem, orthoptics and vision training, optometric counselling of patients with partial sight, colour blindness and hereditary vision defects.
An optometrist is a healthcare professional who provides Primary Vision Care ranging from sight testing and correction to the diagnosis, treatment, and management of eye disease.
INFRASTRUCTURE
Laboratory Facility
The college has six well equipped laboratories – anatomy, physiology, physical, mechanical work shop, visual and clinical.
The Physical Lab of KMCT CAHS consists of Optical Bench Metallic, Double rod, Bras, spectrometer, Air wedge plate set, and polarimeter.
The mechanical workshop of KMCT CAHS comprises of Two Spindle Spherical Machine, Two Spindle Cylindrical Machine, and Lensometer.
The visual lab of KMCT CAHS is a well maintained lab with trial set, Snellen’s distance vision Drum, and Streak Retinoscope.
The clinical lab contains keratometer, ophthalmoscope, Tomometer, Slit lamp, and synoptophore.
