The Bachelor of Science in Optometry is a comprehensive 4-year undergraduate program affiliated to Kerala University of Health Sciences (KUHS), designed to develop skilled optometry professionals who are well-equipped to support modern eye care practices and establish independent optical services.

Key Program Outcomes: Graduates will master clinical support skills for ophthalmologists, independent practice capabilities including refraction tests and contact lens fitting, specialized eye care procedures, ophthalmic equipment operation and maintenance, theatre management, and business development for optical retail establishments.
Curriculum: The program covers comprehensive subjects including General and Ocular Anatomy & Physiology, Physical and Geometrical Optics, Biochemistry, Pharmacology, Pathology, Clinical Examination techniques, Eye Diseases, Contact Lens technology, Binocular Vision, Community Optometry, and Research Methodology across three academic years.
Training Approach: The curriculum combines theoretical studies (60% core essentials, 30% supplementary knowledge, 10% additional information), extensive practical classes with modern equipment, active clinical training in out-patient departments, and one-year rotating internship across specialty departments for hands-on clinical experience.

Candidates who have passed Higher Secondary Examination of the Board of Higher Secondary Education, Kerala or Examinations recognized equivalent thereto, with 50% marks in Biology separately and 50% marks in Physics Chemistry and Biology put together.
The selection of students for the Optometry course is strictly on merit basis as decided by the competent authority approved by the Government of Kerala/Kerala University of Health Sciences.
A candidate on admission to the Optometry course shall apply to the university for registration.
