Optometry

The Optometry Department at KMCT College of Allied Health Sciences offers a comprehensive Bachelor of Sciences (B.Sc) in Optometry, a four-year program including one-year internship that is affiliated with Kerala University of Health Sciences, Thrissur, and approved by Kerala Paramedical Council. This full-time undergraduate program is designed to train skilled eye care professionals by combining theoretical knowledge with extensive practical training in a dynamic academic environment  where students collaborate with peers from other allied health programs, fostering interdisciplinary learning and comprehensive healthcare understanding.


The department's strategic partnership with KMCT Super Specialty Hospital provides students with adequate practical skill training at this 700-bedded tertiary level multispecialty hospital ensuring hands-on experience with diverse patient cases in a real clinical environment. This practical exposure, combined with the mandatory internship, prepares graduates for successful careers in various eye care settings including hospitals, eye clinics, optical stores, and independent practice. The department maintains its commitment to quality education and professional development, making graduates job-ready upon completion of their studies.

 

 

Facilities

The Optometry Department at KMCT College of Allied Health Sciences is equipped with comprehensive laboratory facilities designed to provide hands-on training in eye care diagnostics and treatment. The department houses modern slit lamps - stereoscopic biomicroscopes that emit focused beams of light with variable height, width, and angle, permitting 3-dimensional visualization and measurement of the fine anatomy of the adnexa and anterior segment of the eye.

State of the art lab contains Hot -air oven, Autoclave, Incubator, Safety cabin, and Microscopes.
