Library Orientation Session 2024/25
 
1. Introduction
The Library Orientation Class was organized to familiarize first-year students with the resources, facilities, and services available at the college library. The session aimed to empower students with the knowledge and skills necessary to effectively utilize library resources for their academic success. 
 
2. Objectives
• To introduce the students to the layout and functioning of the library.
• To make students aware of the types of resources available (books, journals, e-resources, databases).
• To demonstrate the use of the library catalog and online databases.
• To educate students on proper referencing and avoiding plagiarism.
• To encourage effective information retrieval skills.
 
3. Schedule and Participants
The orientation program was attended by all first-year students from the following departments:
• 11/12/2024 – 11am to 12pm – MLT
• 11/12/2024 – 2pm to 3 pm – BPT, BOT
• 11/12/2024 – 3pm to 4pm – BSc Optometry, MIT, EMT
• 20/12/2024 – 10am to 11am – BSc Biochemistry, BCVT, CPT and BDT
• 04/02/2025 – 02PM to 03pm – MHA
• 25/02/2025 – 11am to 12 pm – MPT
Special remedial classes were conducted during the allotted library periods to ensure that students who had been absent during the main orientation sessions.
 
 
 
4. Details of the Session
The session began with a warm welcome and brief introduction by the Librarian and then presented a comprehensive overview of the library, covering the following key points:
• Library Facilities: Overview of physical and digital collections, seating arrangements, and quiet study areas.
• Library Rules and Regulations: Borrowing privileges, membership, and library decorum.
• Library Catalogue (OPAC): Demonstration on how to search for books and journals using the Online Public Access Catalogue.
• Digital Resources: Introduction to e-books, online journals, and databases (EBSCO) subscribed by the institution.
• Q&A Session: Students actively engaged with the librarian by asking questions and clarifying doubts.
 
5. Conclusion
The Library Orientation Class was a successful initiative that provided first-year students with essential skills and confidence to make the best use of KMCT CAHS library resources. The library team is committed to supporting students throughout their academic journey and plans to conduct refresher sessions in the future.
